So I showed my mom how to use Claude last month to help organize her book club notes. Just casual, right. She ran with it.
- She's now asking it to draft emails to her doctor's office, format her garden spreadsheet, rewrite her résumé (she's retired but apparently that bothers her).
- Told me yesterday she wants to "hook it up" to her calendar so it reminds her about stuff automatically. I had to explain that's not really how it works.
- She sent me a screenshot of a prompt she wrote asking Claude to help her plan her week. The prompt was longer than most of my onboarding docs.
- She genuinely thinks this is going to save her 10 hours a week and keeps asking why I don't use it for the same things at work.
- Started asking if I can "integrate" Claude into her phone. Not an app, not a tool, just integrated like it's magic.
I spent an hour explaining API costs and context windows. She wasn't interested. She just wants the thing to work.
anyway. Tired of explaining why every problem isn't a prompt away. Also walking past a store that's closing and suddenly thinking about how many small businesses are going to waste time chasing AI automation instead of, you know, talking to customers.
